Journalism

‘I have worked closely with David since I took over the editor-in-chief role at the Budapest Business Journal. He has years of experience writing ad copy and books, giving him a multifaceted background to the writing he does for us. He has that essential quality of curiosity, understands a brief, and asks questions if anything isn’t clear. He unearths some really interesting stories and connections and files his copy on time. From a newspaper editor’s perspective, he is a pleasure to work with.’

Robin Marshall, MBE, Editor-in-chief, Budapest Business Journal

My writing appears in a magazine that appears every two weeks, in yoga and mindfulness magazines and websites as well as specialist publications focused on rock and roll and on the Beat Generation.

For the past few years, I’ve written the Socialite column for the Budapest Business Journal, a fortnightly magazine aimed at expats and English-speaking Hungarians. I recently reviewed a new book about hugely influential American comedian Ernie Kovacs for the BBJ

I’ve practiced yoga and various forms of meditation for many years so writing on these subjects was a natural fit. This piece on legendary rock and roll photographer and yogi Mick Rock for OM yoga and lifestyle magazine was fun to write.

I especially enjoyed researching and writing this piece for Yoga International on Nick Brewer, a yogi with a fascinating story.

My writing also appears on the LA Yoga website.

I wrote on the Beat Generation for cult magazine Beat Scene for several years. More recently, my writing has been published on the European Beat Studies Network website.

I’ve been devoted to rock and roll since I first heard Elvis so being able to write about artists and albums that have had an enormous impact on my life and continue to do so is a real pleasure.

My articles for US cult magazine Ugly Things have covered a little-known aspect of Lou Reed’s life and art, a year in the life of Alice Cooper, soul great Bobby Patterson and talismanic album Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka. I write regular book and album reviews for the magazine.
